Polygon (MATIC) was launched in 2017 by three co-founders: Jaynti Kanani, Sandeep Nailwal, and Anurag Arjun. It started as a layer-2 scaling solution for Ethereum, called Matic Network. The goal was to solve some of the scalability issues that Ethereum faced by providing faster and cheaper transactions. However, as time went on, the team realized that their technology could be used for much more than just scaling Ethereum. In February 2021, the team rebranded Matic Network to Polygon.
